Rock paintings

The cave and rock art was discovered by Hungarian explorer László Almásy in October 1933. It contains Neolithic pictographs (rock painting images) and is named for the depictions of people with limbs bent as if swimming. The drawings include those of giraffes and hippos. They are estimated to have formed as early as 10,000 years ago, with the onset of the African Wet Period, when the Sahara was significantly greener and wetter than it is today. The cause of climate change 10,000 years ago was due to changes in summer solar radiation and vegetation and dust feedbacks.
