Mount Krippenstein

Mount Krippenstein

Imposing double peak

The alpine region around Hallstatt boasts some imposing mountains. One of them is the over 2,000 m high Mount Krippenstein, easily recognisable by its double peak.

A cable car is installed here as early as 1947. Mount Krippenstein becomes the first “two thousander” in the region which visitors can “conquer” artificially. Today the Freesports Arena Krippenstein offers Upper Austria’s longest ski descent - over 11 km – among other activities.

When the Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut region is named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Krippenstein gets an overhaul. A panorama platform with a spiralling ascent, known as the “World Heritage Spiral”, is added to the main peak.

The “5 Fingers” are also spectacular. This is a viewing platform on the neighbouring peak of Mount Krippenstein which projects out into the air. As you can see in the detail image one is rewarded with a fantastic view of Hallstatt.
