Palais Epstein

History in fast motion

Highlight 5 of our walk on Vienna’s Ringstraße is Palais Epstein. You will find it diagonally opposite Burggarten next to both museums.

You would be hard pressed to find another building in Vienna with such a changeable history behind it. The history of Palais Epstein is like a history of Austria in fast motion.

In the last 130 years the Epstein family’s one-time residence and place of business, built in 1870, serves among other things as imperial administrative court, Nazi governing office, post-WW2 Soviet city command post and finally as seat of the Vienna Schools Council. From 2005 Palais Epstein is used as an annex to the Austrian Parliament. Palais Epstein can be viewed as part of a guided tour.

Enjoy now the 3 points of interest from Highlight 5 “Palais Epstein” before continuing your walk on Vienna’s Ringstraße. To do so simply follow Burgring in the direction of traffic until you reach Dr.-Karl-Renner-Ring, where you will find the Austrian Parliament Building, Highlight 6 of our tour of Vienna’s Ringstraße.
