Vienna University’s Senate Chamber

Where the Academic Senate used to meet

The event area located centrally on the first floor of the University of Vienna features, alongside the Main Ceremonial Chamber and Small Ceremonial Chamber, a third room for tributes, receptions and representative occasions: the Senate Chamber. The Senate Chamber is the smallest of the three chambers and, with a floor area of around 140m2 and a room height of approximately 13m, can accommodate over 30 people.

Located directly next to the Rector’s Office, this was where the highest body of the University, the Academic Senate, originally held their sessions. It is decorated with numerous rectors’ portraits from the 17th and 18th centuries.
