Rudolf IV

Probably the most famous of Rudolf’s activities is a forged document from the years 1359/59, the Privilegium Maius (based on the Privilegium Minus of 1156), equating his dynasty de facto with the Prince-Electors of the Holy Roman Empire.

During Rudolf’s reign, expansion of the Church of St. Stephen began and the High Gothic nave was built. It is to the expansion of St. Stephen’s that his byname “the Founder” refers. It can be found on an inscription within the church.
