Imperial Butterfly House in the Burggarten

In the heart of vienna, in one of the most beautiful „Jugendstil“ glasshouses a unique tropical oasis invites you to visit 50 different butterfly species. Up to 400 exotic butterflies live there at 26 degree and humidity of 80 percent.

Enter a fantastic world which is home of wonderful colors and exotics along waterfalls and plants.

Palm House in the Burggarten

As a tropical green oasis in the heart of Vienna, the Palm House in the Burggarten is really a special location. The jewel from the time of the Habsburg dynasty impresses from the outside with its incomparable architecture between Baroque and Art Nouveau. The ambience inside the once imperial orangery is in no way inferior to the external impression. The Palm House is suitable for all stylish events - no matter if gala evening, product presentation, concert, vernissage or wedding.

The original Palm House, a classicistic greenhouse, was built from 1823 to 1826 to plans by Ludwig von Remy and was architecturally oriented to the Orangery in Schönbrunn. This greenhouse was demolished at the turn of the century and in 1901 a new building influenced by the Art Nouveau style was begun, designed by the court architect Friedrich Ohmann. After its construction, the new glasshouse presented itself as a later representative of the so-called architectural glass construction. In the summer months, the ambience of the once imperial orangery is also used for stylish events of all kinds.
