The Coronation of the Virgin

The upper half of the main shrine shows, after her Assumption into Heaven, Mary’s Coronation through the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Ghost, here in the form of a dove). 4 figures appear in the tracery, the decoration on the baldachin or canopy above Mary’s coronation: (from left to right) Benedict, Mother of God, Christ and Bernard of Clairvaux, one of the most important monks of the Cistercians. 3 Apostles appear on each side: (from top to bottom on the left) John, Simon and James the Greater and (from top to bottom on the right) Peter, Paul and Andrew.
