When the actor Klaus Wildbolz, in the role of hotel manager Wenzel Hofer, suffers a heart attack while saving his granddaughter from the water, the TV series “Schlosshotel Orth” has already been running for nearly four years. It is the 69th episode. But the death of the first hotel manager is by no means the end of the series. Actor Albert Fortell takes over the TV hotel in the role of hotel manager Felix Hofstätter. The cast includes Lotte Ledl, Jenny Jürgens and Sascha Wussow.

But dying on screen does not mean that a performer cannot return to the Schlosshotel; the well-known Austrian actress Marianne Nentwich, for instance, whose character – a manager’s wife - dies in episode 1, returns in episode 48 as a doctor.

One of the greatest successes in German-speaking television comes to an end after 8 years, 9 seasons and 144 episodes.

Ort Castle is only the set for the TV series’ exterior scenes. All the interior scenes are shot in a purpose-built studio in Gmunden. Today it is a museum for fans of the series with everything about “Schlosshotel Orth” on 1500 square metres.
