From hotel castle to wedding castle

Today Seeschloss Ort offers itself as a beautiful location for all kinds of events. Especially weddings – over 350 are held here each year. Its popularity is due largely to the German-Austrian TV series “Schlosshotel Orth”.

The series, produced between 1996 and 2004, tells the story of hotel owner Wenzel Hofer and his family. Actually the castle, whose name is spelt without the ‘h’ used in that of the TV series, serves merely as an outdoor backdrop. All the interior scenes take place in a purpose-built studio, the hotel foyer even being reconstructed in a Gmunden furniture store. The Traunsee landscape around Gmunden and Altmünster also provided shooting locations. You can still find signs for the film sets in many places in the region.
