The chasuble

The chasuble

The chasuble is a sleeveless garment passed over the head, to be worn by the priest leading the mass. It bears the most important symbols of the sacrifice of the mass: bread and wine.

These are represented by 5 ears of corn flanked by spirals on the back and grapes linked by spiralling tendrils reminiscent of the branches and leaves of a vine on the front. In addition the white silk is decorated with blue silk rosettes.
