The prospect
unblemished front
The prospect, or front part of the main case, is simply formed, which is typical for Renaissance organs. Unlike instruments from later centuries it isn’t adorned with pinnacles or turrets. The standard registers of the Klosterneuburg organ have remained since the Renaissance and are responsible for its extraordinary, mellow sound.
Originally painted wings would have been used to close up the prospect during Lent. They were removed as part of restoration work carried out at the end of the 17th century. Another characteristic of the feast organ at Klosterneuburg is that it consists exclusively of metal pipes.
