Feast organ in the basilica at Klosterneuburg

Between 1636 and 1642 the feast organ in the basilica at Klosterneuburg is constructed from 2 existing organs of the abbey church from the 16th century. The craftsman is Johannes Freundt, an organ builder from Passau.

Since the Klosterneuburg organ is intended as a solo instrument, few changes are made to the pipes and stops over the centuries. Because of its unaltered state it serves today as a ‘sonic monument’. It’s also unusually large for a 17th century organ, with 2179 pipes and 35 registers divided among 3 manuals or keyboards and 1 pedal board.
