Layout of Vienna General Hospital, 1784
To introduce the newly-opened hospital, a descriptive text (“Nachricht an das Publikum”) and floor plan were printed and distributed throughout the Habsburg Monarchy. The plan served to help people find their way around; directions to each room were given in the image captions while the numbered stairways and wards provided basic orientation.
