Hôtel-Dieu de Paris

Emperor Joseph II became acquainted with the main Paris hospital - known as Hôtel-Dieu – on a trip there in 1783 and further developed the concept when he founded Vienna General Hospital. In Vienna, each patient had their own bed, whereas in Paris it was normal that they share.
