Richter and Austro-fascism
zoom in zoom out

Elise Richter’s membership of the Fatherland Front – New Life, the professional association of the civil service arm of the Fatherland Front organisation which oversaw national education and, among other things, forced a cultural remodelling of Austria. Richter made political statements as an activist for the Civic Workers’ Party in support of World War 1and later in defence of Austro-fascist chancellors Dollfuß and Schuschnigg. She was more than a mere obligatory member of the Fatherland Front and some of her contributions – such as “Rasse Volk Sprache” (or Race People Language) were closer in their content to the minds of those who would later deport her.
