Dollfuß monument

Part of what was effectively a religious Dollfuß cult, the memorial committee of the Fatherland Front held a competition in 1936 for a Dollfuß national monument for Vienna’s Ballhausplatz. The designs by Clemens Holzmeister (a 9 m block) and Hans Andre (a relief of Chancellor Dollfuß as creator of a ‘new Austria’ among the corporative groups he created) were selected. But after the foundation stone was laid in October of 1936, the monument was never realised.
