Crematorium

The modern, oriental-style crematorium building at Vienna Central Cemetery is one of the most striking creations of Viennese architecture of the 1920s and was Clemens Holzmiester’s breakthrough as an architect. Although he was only awarded third place in the competition, it was he who received the commission to build it between 1922 and 1924 (337 Simmeringer Hauptstraße in Vienna’s 11th district).
