The red thread - Melk
The monumental Late Gothic house was flanked by the gate leading to the landing stage and the Danube ferry. Adjacent to it, the semi-circular tower was also part of the town fortifications. A plaque commemorates the Nibelunglied (Song of the Nibelungs), a heroic epic dating back to the early 13th century. Astolt, the lord of the castle, receives Kriemhild and her entourage at Medelick.
