05 - Körnermarkt
zoom in zoom out

The corner house just mentioned Körnermarkt No. 4 is commonly referred as “House of the Four Seasons”. It is a successful example of the architecture of the Rococo period. The sculptor Carl Höfer, who acquired it in 1765, showed his skills in the impressive facade design. It got its name from the three putti (agelic figures) that stand on their pedestals for spring, summer and autumn. The order of summer and autumn were obviously changed. And the winter? It is not missing, the lit lantern is a symbol for the winter and so that is the fourth season!
