Kremsertor

Watercolor 1837

From the end of the 13th and early 14th centuries there is an extensive expansion of the
preserved city fortifications, which in part equals a new system. Pivotal points of this
measures were the two city gates, which are today heavily changed from their original ones
appearance but witness to several historical views.
The Kremser Tor in the south still shows a massive gate tower through which the
passage leads. The former portal is only survived by a sketch, you can see it well
a high pointed arch gate and behind it a fall gate. Above all, the visible, rough blocky
masonry of the tower allows dating before 1300. Apparently there was one west of it
stately residential building, from him a brick arched bifore (double window) remained in the city wall
with brick walls.
