Paravani Caravansary
Paravani Caravansary is a medieval monument located on the east side of Paravani Lake. The 26-m-long, three-nave rectangular building is built of stone and brick with its middle part acting as a corridor and has two churches dating back to the 11th and 13th centuries nearby.
The original building of Paravani Caravansary dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries, the so-called Golden Age of Georgia. Paravani Caravansary had the function of a large trading house, with traders from afar resting here as well as buying and selling their goods.
In the Middle Ages caravansaries existed in all the important trading cities of Georgia. Paravani Caravansary is one of the specimens of Javakheti ruins, which, unlike other caravansaries throughout Georgia, is very well preserved.
