Prellenkirchen wind farm – a case for wind energy

The Climate Alliance in Prellenkirchen led by example in 2003 when the wind farm was opened after around a year of construction. With 17 turbines it was the largest in Austria and set the bar higher with its high-tech facility in terms of energy yield. In 2014 its capacity was nearly doubled through the use of new technology. Today, 4 wind farms with a total of 30 wind power plants generate enough electricity for 40,000 households.

Lower Austria is a model when it comes to renewable energy. Currently around 30 percent of the electricity used in Lower Austria comes from wind energy and nearly a million homes are powered by it. Numbers are rising!

Turbines are criticised in some places but one should not forget that wind is a safe and cost-free resource that is available to us as soon as we step out of the door. Clean wind power is a good alternative to coal, gas or oil energies which are harmful to the environment, as well as to atomic energy. A large proportion of the EVA stays in Austria. Half of the costs of a wind power plant are granted to Austrian companies in various areas and 2 permanent jobs are created for the maintenance and operation of each turbine. After 20 years turbines also retire and are dismantled in a quick and environmentally-friendly way – leaving a green field, just as before.

Prellenkirchen is proud of its turbines. Did our case for wind energy convince you too?
