Scheiterberg ski slope
From Scheiterberg mountain in Mannersdorf there is a marvellous panorama of the Rosalia mountains, over the Hochwechsel, Semmering, Rax and Schneeberg mountains, the Vienna Basin and the city of Vienna all the way to the Lesser Carpathians in Slovakia.
An ideal hiking area. But would you think it possible to ski on this 350-m-high mountain? On the north-east slope lies the Mannersdorf ski slope, known throughout the region, with a 75m drop and a remarkable history.
As early as 1948 the slope excites the curiosity of ski enthusiasts from the local Naturfreunde organisation. The following year, after permission is granted by the municipality of Mannersdorf, it is painstakingly cleared by hand. Over subsequent decades, numerous additions are made to the popular ski slope. In the 1970s a ski lift is installed, along with a small shelter called the Hochfilzerhütte in honour of the long-time chairman of the Naturfreunde. In 1999 the shelter is rebuilt and in 2000 the new summit cross is officially unveiled on Scheiterberg mountain.
In good snow conditions the Mannersdorf ski and toboggan slope is ideal for children and beginners. It is also the start of a 14-km-long cross-country skiing trail. The Hochfilzerhütte is open daily in winter and on Sundays and holidays during the hiking season. The Mannersdorf Naturfreunde are looking forward to your visit!
