Black pine
A beautiful black pine grows directly on the main avenue in group 10. The species can grow up to 40 metres high and live for 600-800 years. It is mainly native to southern Europe, though it can be found growing as far north as Vienna.
As the black pine is relatively undemanding and insensitive to air pollution, it is planted as greenery in cities and especially in industrial areas. It can cope with high levels of salt, industrial dust and even smoke containing sulphur dioxide.
Black pine wood is used in many different ways, including for the production of pulp and plywood and as construction timber. As boards made from black pine do not creak, they are often used to build stages.
