Botanicum

The Botanicum is the course building of the Botanical Garden. It consists of a course room and a preparation room. The equipment includes microscopes, plant objects and a wide range of workshop materials.

The ’Grüne Schule’ (Green School) workshops for adults and children take place here. Established in 1992, the Green School offers guided tours and workshops, especially for school groups. Experiments, microscope workshops, handicrafts and games take place in the Botanicum all year round. Every year, several thousand children and young people come to the Botanical Garden to discover the world of plants.

Educating children and young people about botany and natural science is a major objective of the Botanical Garden, as plants often receives less attention than animals. Students of the degree programmes in Biology and the teacher education programme in Biology pass on their botanical knowledge as guides in the Green School and later educate pupils when working as teachers in schools.
