Restoring the gates

The doors and gates of the facade on Josefsplatz

Turning old into new

The doors and gates of the facade on Josefsplatz also received an overhaul. In the adapted image you can see their condition before and after renovations. Originally the gates were covered with canvas; the colour below had peeled off and woodworm had causing extensive damage.

In the course of refurbishments the wooden surfaces, like that of the windows, were stripped of old paint and primed with hot, boiled linseed oil. Weather-beaten parts were repaired with larch wood. The next important phase was to mount the fittings, treated with anti-rust paint, before repainting the gates in grey oil paint as they were originally.
